In an era where misinformation spreads rapidly through digital channels, media literacy has been converted into a crucial skill for society. The Government of Zacatecas, México, recognizes that in regions with limited access to education, for citizens, especially for young people, there are difficulties in distinguishing the information creíble from the false notices and the sensationalist content designed to generate confusion and misunderstanding.
To address this desafío and promote digital alphabetization in all the region, the Programa de las Naciones Unidas para el Desarrollo (PNUD) en México, through its Laboratory of Acceleration, launched an innovative initiative to provide the city with tools of critical thinking for navigation by the panorama of digital information. The UNDP entrusted Motttum for the design and the implementation of a scalable solution of workshops driven by AI which will be able to replicate the pedagogical orientation of experts in regional areas.
The Challenge
The initial concept of taller is based on the facilitation of experts (pedagogy + analysis of emotional reactions) both in online format as present. The main limitation is the scale: sessions conducted by experts are difficult to replicate regionally, expensive to repeat and difficult to standardize between facilitators.
However, the consumption of information, especially among young people, occurs mainly through mobile channels, with short content and popular message applications quickly perceived. The intervention should be adapted to the participants who will need it to work, so it will be easy to manage for the facilitators.
The solution
Mottum designed and implemented an online workshop flow that allows facilitators to replicate a structured learning experience, with the help of AI for creation, personalization and content analysis.
¿What is the platform?
- Generate messages in WhatsApp styles and workshop materials adapted to each group, based on the messages of the participants.
- Capturing the emotional reactions and interpretations of the content and then summarizing the patterns in a final result, easy to use for the facilitator (panel + narratives in perspective).
- Allows facilitators without experience to impart sessions of consistent training, without the need for advanced knowledge of IA or analysis.
The positive impact
The solution is validated in Zacatecas cities and is designed on the first day to be repeatable and scalable but with a single session led by an expert. In practice, the project created:
- A repeatable digital taller model that can be implemented in different regions. A kit of facilitating tools (flow + documentation) to reduce the dependence of specialized specialists.
- A database of data to learn and improve the intervention with the time, cohort by cohort, if adopted at greater scale.
Conclusion
So it's like "AI for social impact" in practice: we don't replace educators, if we multiply them, so that more communities can learn critical thinking skills in the same place and with constant quality.
