More efficient and transparent data: automation of the Fertilizers for Wellbeing Program in Mexico.

Agriculture is a key sector in Mexico and the Fertilizers for Wellbeing Program plays an essential role in providing agricultural inputs to the most vulnerable producers. However, the management of data related to the beneficiaries and authorized producers of the program is complex, since the information is dispersed in multiple databases and formats.

To improve the efficiency in the management of this information and guarantee transparent management, the Executive Secretariat of the National Anti-Corruption System (SESNA) trusted us to develop a technological solution that optimizes the extraction, transformation and loading (ETL) of the program's data.

The challenge

The main challenge faced by SESNA was the consolidation of data from different sources and formats related to the Fertilizers for Wellbeing Program. The information, which was distributed in more than 40 databases, had to be unified and standardized, and then integrated into a centralized repository. In addition, it was crucial that this process be automated to reduce the time and errors associated with manual data management, thus ensuring that the program will continue to be transparent and efficient.

The solution

At Mottum we developed an automation system based on data engineering technology, designing an extraction, transformation and loading (ETL) module that consolidated the information of authorized producers and beneficiaries of the Fertilizer Program. Using Python and other data processing tools, we created automated scripts that extracted, cleaned and unified the dispersed data. These are stored in a central repository, with detailed documentation and standardization, according to the requirements of the program, facilitating its analysis and subsequent use by SESNA.

Our solution is sustainable, scalable and customizable so it could be implemented in other public administrations.

Positive Impact

The implementation of this automated solution had a significant impact on the management of the Fertilizer Program. By centralizing data and reducing processing time, SESNA can now access accurate and up-to-date information on the program’s beneficiaries and producers, improving decision-making. In addition, automation has allowed for greater transparency, as data is efficiently consolidated, making it easier to monitor and control the use of public resources. This has contributed to strengthening trust in government programs and improving operational efficiency.

Conclusion

The success of this project demonstrates how process automation and data consolidation can transform the management of key public programs, ensuring both efficiency and transparency.
